ok so this series I did some playing around with light like I said I would last week.  The pics I took of my daughter are ones that I had played with lighting.  I placed a light directly towards her face and then below it.   I love how I captured just her facial features.  Her beauty and mystery.  The photos of me with  my son were to celebrate him missing a tooth.  They are the raw footage of my pain this weekend.  I have a back surgery pending in a few months and this weekend made it extremely difficult to get up and function.  Living with Grave's Disease is not an easy thing, especially in this cold weather as you can see on my fully freckled face.

The remaining objects were for the macro component.  Believe it or not the pool table is only 3x4 inches.  I am an avid pool player and was gifted that mini desk top set my by husband.  We play it only when we want a good laugh, but for this project its size was perfect.  I had lots of tiny things in my home.  I tend to collect tiny things so this was right up my alley.

  1. The top one of your daughter with the light on her face is moving. It is subtle, heartfelt and restrained. One of the things about shooting with a phone, is that its lens is quite wide angle.... that means getting in very close to your subject and then what happens is that the features of the face get a bit distorted. Noses and foreheads grow large and chins and ears get small. The best lens to do portraiture with is a mild telephoto. The iPhone starting with the 7+ added a "portrait" lens that is a mild telephoto for more pleasing facial features. It also helps push an out of focus background using "computational photography" or a software solution.

My favorite shots are more abstract rather than literal. Shots such as the push pins, and the metal chain (in b and w) are good examples... some of the paper clips are playful and abstract as well.. The fact that you shot and posted so many images is a good thing and provides a good selection to narrow down a portfolio to the very strongest images.
